"Today I woke up a major champion. I still can’t believe what happened yesterday. A single week that turned my life upside down (in a good way)." USC Golf alumna Sophia Popov's tweet says it all! After entering the AIG Women's British Open in Royal Troon, Scotland, ranked #304, she led the final round from wire to wire to win her first major title and the first place prize of $675,000. Her four day scores were 70, 72, 67 and 68!
Trojan Candy and my husband Jim met Sophia at the Salute to Troy on Saturday, August 24, 2013. She was a junior then and a three time All American. Our Women of Troy won the 2013 NCAA Women's Golf title. See Sophia on the stage holding the NCAA Championship trophy.
The next year I was able to take this picture of Sophia and her family at the USC Student-Athlete Graduation Celebration on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Sophia was named an All-American for the fourth year in a row! What an amazing USC athlete!
