Friday, September 9, 2022---USC Band Stanford Football Game Rally

Trojan Candy and my husband Jim arrived early at the Embarcadero Plaza for our USC Spirit of Troy Stanford Football Game Rally. We staked out a place where we thought I would have the best view for taking videos.

As we waited for the band to arrive, we saw good friend Jerry Ensom, who posed with Jim. Jerry volunteers with the band.
Next, I went up to say hello to Band Director Jake Vogel. He posed for this nice picture.
After the band buses unloaded, Trojan Candy decided to take pictures of different groups as they practiced. First were the saxophones.
Next came the flutes.
Trojan Candy and Jim had met Tomo’s Mom earlier. I made sure to take a picture of Tomo with his Mom Yasuko.
Nearby was the USC Spirit of Troy Twirler Emily Tutnick. She smiled for Trojan Candy.
Next, the USC Song Girls posed for this picture.
Now, here are our drummers.

The drummers entertained us with their rhythmic drumming.

Now, it is time to feature the Tubas in "Give Me a Little Sunshine."

Now the ever popular "Tusk."
Drum Major Jacobo Herrera starts the Spirit of Troy exit.

See you tomorrow at the Stanford Stadium.

FIGHT ON, the Spirit of Troy!

Saturday, September 3, 2022---USC Football vs Rice University

Trojan Candy and my husband Jim arrived at 11:30 am at the Los Angeles Coliseum where the USC football team would play its first game with Rice University in the afternoon. We walked to the Fan Fest to try to get some free items. I got a clear plastic bag and another clear plastic hip purse. Thank you!

video 3354I just happened to look to my left, and there they were...our four team buses turned into the Coliseum driveway. Trojan Candy took this video of the USC coaches and players getting off the busses. Our coaches were in Bus 1.

4528Then, Jim and I visited Ryan Abraham’s tailgate which was near the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Even though we were able to sit under a tent, it was so HOT! Trojan Candy went to say, “Hello” To Ryan.

4535After sitting down in comfortable chairs, I started talking to the Trojan sitting to my left. His name was Mike and he told me that he and his family live in Long Beach. Naturally, I took a picture of Mike and his family. They were daughter Annie, Mike, and wife Karen.

Then Jim and I decided to walk to the Coliseum.

Luckily, our seats are on the south side in Row 38 just in front of the concrete wall. We were in the shade! Our team was warming up.
Here is our scoreboard.
Rice players huddled together.

Our team practiced pre-game.

video 3373After our team returned to the locker room, the Rice University Band performed. Because Trojan Candy was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and my dad, Charlie Chan, attended Rice, I knew what to expect from the Rice Owl’s Band. The Rice Band is the ORIGINAL Stanford Band! Here is a video of their shenanigans. As expected they were booed off the field.

video 3374
Now, it was the Spirit of Troy’s turn to perform.
video 3378
During the Star Spangled Banner, Trojan Candy saw some little dots in the sky. Yes, they were airplanes!
video 3379
Who is going to lead our team onto the field? The Mobley brothers, Isaiah and Evan! Both brothers are now playing in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers! CLICK HERE to read Isaiah’s interview. Here is my video of the team being led out of the Coliseum tunnel by Evan and Isaiah!
video 3381
Here is the first “coin toss” for the 2022 season.
video 3383
Here is our first offensive play after we received the kick-off.
video 3387
Our offense led by #13 Caleb Williams scored the first USC touchdown of the 2022 season with a catch by #3 Jordan Addison. CLICK HERE to read Trojan Candy’s interview of Jordan at the Salute to Troy on Saturday, June 18, 2022.
video 3422
Trojan Candy was able to video most of #7 Defensive Back Calen Bullock’s 93 yard “Pick Six” at 8:05 of the second quarter.
video 3441
At half-time, our Spirit of Troy, in cool shorts and shirts, performed.
video 3462
In the 4th quarter, Trojan Candy took this video of the USC Song Girls and the entire team on the sidelines.
video 3474
Also, in the 4th quarter I took a video of my friend Wide Receiver John Jackson III in the game. CLICK HERE to read John’s interview.

3483We won our first football game of 2022 by a big margin.

video 3481After the game ended, our Spirit of Troy played “Conquest” and the entire team walked over to the band. #7 DB Calen Bullock stood on the ladder and held up the sword as he directed the Spirit of Troy. FIGHT ON, Calen!

What an exciting first game!
