Congratulations to our Women of Troy Track and Field Team for winning the 2018 NCAA Title!

Trojan Candy was fortunate enough to have met and interviewed two Seniors on the Women of Troy NCAA Champion Track and Field Team at the Graduating Women of Troy Student-Athletes Celebration on Wednesday, 5/9/2018. It turns out that these two Seniors were integral to the victory.

Wednesday, June 6, 2018---Trojan Huddle in Newport Beach

Balboa Bay ResortMy husband Jim and I arrived early at the Balboa Bay Resort. Trojan Candy wants to get a choice seat to take videos. We were almost the first ones there.

This year was different from previous years. In previous years, the doors to the ballroom were closed. After we checked in, we walked right into the ballroom. Trojan Candy got her choice seat, put my two cameras down, and followed Jim to the food buffet. The food was already being served! For once, Trojan Candy can eat before taking pictures and videos!

Trojan Candy was looking around for the USC football and basketball players who will be featured in the program. Then I saw both of them! Basketball friend Derryck Thornton and football pass receiver Tyler Vaughns. Naturally, Trojan Candy walked over to see them.

Tyler VaughnsI was able to interview Tyler Vaughns first. Tyler is going to be a Sophomore next season, and he is majoring in Communication. Tyler started playing football when he was eight or nine years old. His three brothers, Geoffrey, Aaren and Jonathan also play(ed) football. Geoffrey competed at Dixon State, Aaren at Utah State and younger brother Jonathan at St. John Bosco H.S. Maybe another future Trojan! I asked Tyler why he chose USC. Tyler gave me three reasons.... He liked the school, it was close to home and the coaches are great. Even more personally, Tyler told Trojan Candy that he doesn't like to watch television, but he is a movie fanatic. His favorite movie is "Poetic Justice." Tyler's hobby is that he likes to write poetry. A Poet! As for music, he likes 90's music..."old music, old school" Rhythm and Blues. Lastly, Tyler's favorite food is pasta. One of the buffet dishes tonight is macaroni and cheese. Trojan Candy likes it too. FIGHT ON, Tyler!

Dick Groendel, Tyler Vaughns, Andrea Casaw, and Derryck ThorntonTrojan Candy was able to talk with basketball friend redshirt Junior Derryck Thornton (10/24/2017). I interviewed him last year at a men's basketball scrimmage. I was able to take this picture of Tyler and Derryck with past President of the Orange County Trojan Club Dick Groendel and current President Andrea Casaw.

Now, it was time for the program to start. Trojan Candy sat in her favorite spot and took videos of the program.
