Wednesday, November 22, 2023---Meet Half Century Trojans Scholar Katie Kim

7443Trojan Candy met scholar Katie Kim at the Half Century Trojans reception on November 9th. I gave her some interview questions, and she sent me her interview answers. Meet scholar Katie Kim

Where are you from? I am from Diamond Bar, California.

Why did you choose USC? I chose USC for the community and wide range of opportunities offered. I transferred from community college my sophomore year, and was looking for new communities to go through college with. So far, I have met some of my best friends through the organizations and classes I have been in and have loved my USC experience. USC also offers the unique Pharmacology and Drug Development major, which I feel like perfectly catered to my career interests. The professors truly care about the subjects they teach, which motivates me to be passionate about pharmacy.

Do you have any relatives who also attended USC? My grandfather attended USC over 50 years ago and graduated with a civil engineering degree. His pure grit to finish such a hard degree when he barely spoke English also encourages me daily to do my best despite hardships in classes or life.

What is your Major and Minor? My major is Pharmacology and Drug Development and I have a minor in Psychology.

What profession will you choose after you graduate from USC? I would like to get a PharmD and explore my options with Pharmacy! I am interested in going into the business / industry side, but I am also interested in doing research and drug discovery.

Are you a member of any USC organizations? Officer? I am currently the President of Alpha Phi Omega (a community service fraternity), the Secretary of the Pre-Pharmacy Society, and the Mentorship Intern for Inter-Health Council.

What is your favorite movie? T.V. show? Music? I love to listen to music from Clairo, Beabadoobee, and Childish Gambino! Some of my favorite TV shows include Modern Family, Money Heist, and any cooking show!

Hobbies? Some of my hobbies include taking pictures, thrifting, exploring new cafes, playing with my dog, and journaling!

So nice to meet you, Katie!

KEEP FIGHTING ON!

Sunday, November 12, 2023---Meet Half Century Trojans Scholar Alex Ushiyama

7449Trojan Candy met Alexandra Ushiyama at the Half Century Trojans Reception on Thursday, November 9th. At that reception I gave her some interview questions, and Alex sent me her rsponses. Meet HCT scholar Alex Ushiyama.

Where are you from? I’m from South Orange County, CA

Why did you choose USC? Do you have any relatives who also attended USC? I chose USC because I really thought it was the best fit for me, both academically and career wise. When I came to the School of Dramatic Arts (SDA) orientation, I fell in love with the program as well as the school as a whole. Both my grandfather and uncle attended USC.

What is your Major and Minor? I’m a BA Theatre, Acting Emphasis major and Screenwriting minor.

What profession will you choose after you graduate from USC? After I graduate, I plan (and hope) to be a working film actress/screenwriter in LA.

Are you a member of any USC organizations? I’m a member of the Writers Actors Guild (WAG) at USC.

Do you attend USC cultural or athletic events? Yes! I mainly attend the football games as well as SDA performances!

What is your favorite movie? TV show? Music? Recording Artist? Books? I’m very indecisive, so my favorite things usually cycle out. But currently, my favorite movie is Crazy Rich Asians. My favorite TV show is Arcane. I love Joji, Harry Styles, and Billie Eilish. And one of my favorite books is Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow.

Where have you traveled? What is your favorite location? My family loves traveling, so I have been fortunate enough to have traveled to many places, but my favorite is Japan. I was around 10 when we went, but I still remember that trip so vividly. We stayed in Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo. My favorite was Kyoto, mainly because of the beauty there.

Hobbies? I love baking and decorating cookies. I always make gingerbread cookies for Christmas and love doing intricate designs and decorations. I also love making pies for Thanksgiving (usually Pumpkin and Key Lime). I love doing nail art as well. In 2020, I started doing my own nails and ever since, I’ve always done my own fake nails as well as for my friends!

So nice to meet you, Alex!

KEEP FIGHTING ON!

Thursday, November 9, 2023---Meet Half Century Trojans Scholar Zoe Beach

7447At the Half Century Trojans Reception today, Trojan Candy was met fifteen HCT scholars. Scholar Zoe Beach sent me her information that evening. Meet Zoe Beach.

Where are you from? From my sport team allegiances to the healthy collection of puffer jackets I have brought with me to USC, I am a Bay Area native through and through!

Why did you choose USC? Coming from a small private middle and high school, I looked for a college that would broaden my horizons while also maintaining that "small-school" feel. As soon as I toured the campus my junior year of high school, I knew that USC would be that school for me, and it has certainly lived up to that and more.

Do you have any relatives who also attended USC? My grandpa graduated from USC with a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering so the Trojan spirit has certainly been passed down :) Fight on!

What is your major/minor? I am a Design (Roski School of Art and Design) major and Innovation: The Digital Entrepreneur minor (Viterbi School of Engineering and Marshall School of Business).

What profession will you choose after you graduate from USC? In the past two years, I have fallen in love with the emerging technology industry and the opportunities it presents for me to marry my visual design language and storytelling skills with a passion for creative problem solving. I would love to evolve/build a technology-enabled consumer product, whether that be alongside a diverse team of founders or starting one as a founder myself.

Are you a member of any USC organizations? I am a Creative Strategy Lead at USC's Trojan Marketing Group, which quickly became my second-family in Los Angeles. I have also recently joined the Surf Club and have been loving spending every Thursday morning in the Malibu sun *trying* to catch some waves.

Do you attend USC cultural or athletic events? DUH! Basketball and tennis games are my jam!!

Favorite movie: It's a tie between Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, The Little Mermaid, One Day, and Grease.

TV show: Friends.

Music: Vampire Weekend band

Book: My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

Favorite location: Lake Tahoe

Hobbies: Video Editing, film-making, surfing, tennis, hiking, skiing, graphic design

So nice to meet you, Zoe!

KEEP FIGHTING ON, Zoe!

Thursday, September 7, 2023---Half Century Trojans at Alumni Association 100 Year Dinner

What a lovely evening for the Alumni Association 100 Year celebration at Founders Park. Trojan Candy arrived early for the event. I started taking pictures at the open bar area first. It was so nice to see friends from several USC organizations. Organizations that were represented were the USC Trojan Guild of Los Angeles, Town and Gown, USC Half Century Trojans, USC Alumni Helenes, USC Associates, Women of Troy, Cardinal and Gold, and USC Trojan League of Los Angeles.

Trojan Candy wrote the names of each person in a small notebook as I took each picture. Unfortunately, I have misplaced the notebook. I had waited to write this blog until I could find the notebook. However, it is still missing. So, I am posting some pictures that I took, and will add the names later when I find the notebook.

What an exciting celebration!
