Sunday, February 19, 2017---Women of Troy Basketball Senior Salute

Cynthia Cooper-DykeMy husband Jim and I arrived at the Founders Room of Galen Center at 1:00 p.m. two hours before the Women of Troy's basketball game with the Washington Huskies. Women of Troy Head Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke held a "Chalk Talk" for devoted fans. The fajita lunch was delicious. Coach Cooper-Dyke visited with fans and supporters at each table. Then she showed highlights of our last victory over #9 Oregon State in Corvallis.

Four SeniorsNext, Coach Cooper talked about our four Seniors---Jordan Adams, Alexis Lloyd, Courtney Jaco and Ivana Jakubcova.

At 2:30 p.m. Trojan Candy went to take pictures of the four Seniors and their families. Thank you to SID friend Darcy Couch, I could take pictures on the court. Jim went to the second level to take a video of the Salute to the four Seniors.

Women's team
Then before the entire team ran onto the court to warm up, they hyped themselves up to play well.
Tausha, Jordan, and Jerrald Adams
During the warm-ups, Senior Jordan Adams walked out of the tunnel. Trojan Candy visited with Jordan and then met her parents Tausha and Jerrald Adams who were sitting in the stands.
Courtney Jaco's family
Next, after some effort, I was able to gather Courtney Jaco's large family together for this picture.
Right after taking the picture of Courtney's family, Trojan Candy heard the announcement that friend Keith Williams was going to sing the Star Spangled Banner. Regrettably, I couldn't make it to center court to take his picture and videorecord him again. As usual, he did a magnificient job.
Erin Jacobs and Ivana Jakubcova
I had to move quickly now. I ran over to the tunnel and took this picture of Senior Ivana Jakubcova and her friend Erin Jacobs who were the first in line to be introduced.
Khadija, Curtis, Clifton, and Alexis Lloyd
After taking this picture of Senior Alexis Lloyd and her family, I introduced myself to her parents Khadija and Clifton and her brother Curtis.
Senior Salute
Then the video tribute to our four Seniors began on the big screen. Jim's video shows the entire Salute. Thanks, Jim!
Meanwhile, I was on the court taking pictures of Coach Cooper-Dyke with each of the four Seniors. Trojan Candy can be in two places at the same time!

Thursday, February 9, 2017---A Visit with an "Old" Friend

As Trojan Candy walked up the stairs to the Marks Tennis Stadium to watch the Men's Tennis team play the University of San Francisco, I saw an "old" friend. It was so nice to see Ray Sarmiento (3/11/2011) again. He told me that he is in Los Angeles for only a week. Then he will be off to Mexico to continue on the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Tour. Ray had won three NCAA Team Tennis Championships at USC in 2011, 2012 and 2014.Steve Lopes, Ray Sarmiento, and Lynn Swann

Later in our match versus USF, Trojan Candy asked Ray if he was going to meet Athletic Director Lynn Swann, who had just arrived at the match. With a smile, he walked up the stairs. Ray gave Senior Associate Athletic Director Steve Lopes a big hug. Then, Steve introduced Ray to Lynn Swann. I took their picture.

Good luck in the USTA and FIGHT ON, Ray!

Saturday, February 4, 2017---Fight On, 1977 NCAA Men's Volleyball Champions!

After the USC Men's Volleyball match versus U.C. San Diego, Trojan Candy went to the reception in the Galen Center Founder's Room. The current USC Men's Volleyball Team honored the 1977 USC Men's Volleyball Team. They won the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship that year. Coach Jeff Nygaard introduced the championship team. Then he showed a video of the championship match against Ohio State that he found in the archives and gave a copy to each team member.

Dusty Dvorak, Neal Amsden, David Strausberg, Brent Peterson, Bob Yoder, Celso Kalache, Jim Strickland, and Alan RosehillTrojan Candy took a picture of the 1977 Team Members on the stage. It wasn't possible to take a fully posed picture because the team was looking at Coach Nygaard speaking. Coach Bob Yoder was nice enough to send me the names of his teammates. Left to right: Dusty Dvorak, Neal Amsden, David Strausberg, Brent Peterson, Bob Yoder, Celso Kalache, Jim Strickland, and Alan Rosehill.

FIGHT ON, Dusty, Neal, David, Brent, Bob, Celso, Jim and Alan!
