Sunday, April 30, 2017---TGLA at the Ladies Tea
At 2:30 pm Trojan Candy arrived for the Ladies Tea at the home of President Max Nikias and his wife Niki Nikias. It is so nice that Town and Gown member Niki invites her fellow members to a tea every year at her beautiful home. The tea was held under a large tent erected on the front lawn.
As soon as I walked into the tent, I began taking pictures of TGLA members who are also Town and Gown members. Several attendees wore unique hats.
My sister Patti was sitting with Rachel Beal, who works in the Rossier School of Education.
Nancy Reed, who was sitting close to us, wore a colorful white polka dot blue dress.
Next to Nancy were several TGLA members. Standing were Sandy Johnston, Marcia Montez, and Sheila Derrig. Seated were Rosalee Pechersky, Mo Bassity, and Sandi Gilbert.
I walked around the entire tent looking for more TGLA members. I found five members at another table. Seated were Carol Thueson, Sharon Wood, and Julie Pircher. Standing were Mary Lane and Jane Bensussen.
Jane insisted that I be in a picture, so she followed me to my table and took this picture of Patti and yours truly.
Next, I asked our President Nikki Dana to walk over and pose with Kathy Duffy.
A short walk away Trojan Candy saw Virginia Boyes (who is Lois's mother), Lois Booth, and Cheryl Schwartz.
After I walked the entire length of the tent to hopefully finally sit down to try the petit food, I took this picture of Mina Martinez, Sandy Johnston, and Jane Bensussen.
Then I asked Sandy and Jane to accompany me to the middle of the tent to take a picture with our 2017 President Elect Jean Getchell and Jean's best friend and former USC roommate Sharon Schmidt. All four ladies smiled for me.
Walking back to my table, I managed to get this picture of Carol Fox. President Nikias was talking to the ladies at Carol's table, so I had to be careful not to interrupt him.
Next, Trojan Candy saw D'Arcy McLeod smiling at me.
I sat down at my table just in time before the program started. President Nikias spoke about our unbelievable fund raising accomplishment of raising six billion dollars in six and a half years! He told us that the opening of the USC Village will be this August. Lastly, Dr. Nikias talked about our Rose Bowl victory!
After President Nikias finished speaking, two USC Opera Students sang two duets for us. They were outstanding!
Former Town and Gown presidents were asked to come up onto the stage for a presentation. The current Town and Gown president Pat Whitman presented Niki Nikias with a lovely pearl necklace and medallion.
Then, President Nikias joined the ladies on the podium for this picture. From left to right were Carol Fox, Jane Bensussen, Niki Nikias, President Nikias, Linda Givvin, Pat Whitman, and Carol Mollett.
As the guests were leaving, Trojan Candy saw new TGLA member Judith Harris. She posed for this cute picture.
Just when I thought that I had taken a picture of every TGLA member in attendance, Trojan Candy saw two more members in the house. Marilyn O'Driscoll and Jean Ann Holbrook smiled and then said "goodbye" to me.
Another memorable afternoon.
Sunday, April 9, 2017---Trojan Candy Gets to See "Evita"
My husband Jim and I were invited to the USC Associates performance of "Evita" by Dean Karen Gallagher of the USC Rossier School of Education. Two other TGLA members were also in attendance. They were my sister Patti Poon and Linda Waxman.
I took this picture of Linda outside the theater.
In the lobby, Trojan Candy took two pictures of displays for "Evita."
Second display
The stage was simple for the opening act.
What an awesome production! The USC students were so talented.
After the performance we attended a reception in the Associate's Park.
My good friend Armando Brown (01/23/2009) was the official USC photographer for the evening. He used my camera to take this picture of the people at our table. Standing are Dudley and Patti Poon. Seated are Lai Tan and Genaro Carapia, Candy and Jim Yee, and Lenore and Les Rukasin.
Then I took this picture of a "clowning" Armando.
Before they left, Trojan Candy took this picture of Linda Waxman and her husband Robert. Sorry, Linda, I should have taken two pictures.
Sunday, April 2, 2017---The Trojan Guild at "Evita"
Trojan Candy came to the Bing Theater early just to take pictures of all my friends who were coming to see "Evita," this year's Trojan Guild Theater Event.
The first picture I took was of early arrivals Jean Ann and Bob Holbrook with their guest Becky Mejia.
The two TGLA Vice Presidents of the Theater Event, JoAnne Polite and Mary Hall (who substituted for Juel Collins) were waiting for guests to arrive.
Mary Hall posed with her guest Charlene Mundy.
Gloria Phillips brought her family, Cassidy, Steve and Lisa, to our event.
Trojan Candy caught three TGLA members---Jean Getchell, Patricia and Tom Dowling, and Sharon Schmidt---walking to the theater.
It was hard to include everyone in my next picture, but luckily I did. Jerry Ensom, Rita Dana, Gaston Escamilla, Nikki Dana, Suzanne Stillman, Jenna Carlston, Dean Carlston, Christine Ofiesh, and Sandy Johnston managed to fit in and smile!
It was so nice to see friend Lee Harnish again. Her husband Don came with her, but she couldn't find him for a picture. Lee did pose with Judy Lieb and Sharon Schmidt.
Patricia Dowling and TGLA President Nikki Dana were talking and stopped for my picture.
Sandy Johnston was surrounded by her husband Rex and two good friends Jerry Ensom and Gaston Escamilla.
Barbara Hance arrived with her daughter and USC alumna Cati.
Dorothy Conte and her guest Lani Parente smiled for me.
Town and Gown members joined TGLA members in this picture. Standing behind Carol Thueson and Anne Peplow were Sharon Wood, D'Arcy McLeod, Marsha Jackson, Diane Barber, and Julie Pircher.
Cynthia Carli and Leslie Lilly brought their families to "Evita." Greg Brooks, Cynthia, Dana Brooks, and Leslie and Bruce Lilly posed together.
Trojan Candy was so happy to see Mo Bassity. She was flanked by Lee Harnish and Sandi Gilbert.
i
It was almost curtain time. Trojan Candy was rushing around to get these last three pictures.
Mary Hall's three guests made it in time. Milton and Mary Hall joined their guests Kevin Smith and David Suazte.
Running up to get their tickets were Betty Gross and Louis Byrd. They stopped for this picture with JoAnne Polite and Charlene Mundy to the left and Judith Harris, Sandy Johnston, and Mary Hall to the right.
Our final TGLA member to arrive, Sherry DeFriese, posed with Sandy, JoAnne and Mary.
Then the four ladies hurried into the Bing Theater for the performance.
Trojan Candy went home, because she's going to see "Evita" next Sunday.
