Sunday, March 3, 2019---A Victory and Cake, Too!
Coach Trakh invited the Senior parents, families and friends as well as Women of Troy boosters to a postgame reception in the Founder's Room after the game. My husband Jim and I happily went to the reception. We were still elated about our exciting O.T. victory.
The team joined us for cake and ice cream. Here is the cake with a picture of the four Seniors.
Trojan Candy walked around taking as many pictures as I could of the players and their families. I found
Aliyah Mazyck (10/11/2015) and Marguerite's father Pargait first.
Then, Aliyah posed with a friend.
Next, Trojan Candy took this picture of Marguerite with her family. They were her H.S. Coach Judy Edwards, cousin Paola, uncle Rodger, dad Pargait and Marguerite.
Aliyah asked me to take a picture of her with her dad Yandrick.
Then, Aliyah's family gathered around her for this picture.
My friend Tom Zide asked me to take a picture of him with Aliyah.
Senior Cheyanne Wallace and
Minyon Moore (11/5/2017) posed for this picture.
Trojan Candy was able to interview Cheyanne next. Cheyanne is a graduate transfer from LMU. She is earning her degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at USC. Her hobby is her business. Her product is skin care cosmetics. Cheyanne's favorite food is sushi. Her favorite music artist is Drake. As for movies, Cheyanne likes all Disney movies but her absolute favorite is Hercules. FIGHT ON, Cheyanne!
Cheyanne's family joined her in this picture. They are her Uncle Charles, dad Joe Wallace, Cheyanne, her brother JoJo, friend Dee and cousin Justin.
Across the room, Trojan Candy saw Aliyah and her grandmother Sheryl.
Now, it was time to cut the cake. The four seniors---
Mariya (11/5/2017), Aliyah, Marguerite and Cheyanne---did the honors.
The cake and ice cream was delicious!
Now, Coach Trakh and the assistant coaches Jason Glover, Aarika Hughes and Blanche Alverson had the seniors join them one at a time on the stage.
Cheyanne Wallace was first. Coach Trakh presented her with a jacket.
Marguerite Effa was second.
The next two seniors, Mariya Moore and Aliyah Mazyck, are in this video.
Trojan Candy's last picture of the night was of Mariya Moore's family. In the front row are Mariya Moore, Elijah Jimenez, Denise Miller and Zander Jimenez. Behind are Errol Moore, Kristina Walton, Quiana Caldwell, Erik Pillow, Cenne Carroll Moore, Ja'Tavia Tapley, Deanna Jimenez, Juan Jimenez, Minyon Moore and Barbara Joyce.
What a memorable evening!
FIGHT ON, Cheyanne! FIGHT ON, Marguerite! FIGHT ON, Mariya! FIGHT ON, Aliyah!
Sunday, March 3, 2019---Kids' Day, USC Senior Salute and Women of Troy Basketball vs Utah
At Galen Center, USC's Trojan Outreach hosted its biggest event of the year for kids and families at "A Day in Troy" before the Women of Troy basketball game vs. Utah. Trojan Outreach gave a t-shirt to everyone who attended their Kids' Day. Trojan Candy got one too. After showing the attendees a video about USC athletes, everyone was invited upstairs to play games to win prizes and get autographs.
Trojan Candy went upstairs to take, what else?, pictures of the USC athletes signing autographs.
I took a picture of Track and Field athletes Eric Allen Jr. and Brendon Stewart first.
Women Soccer players Jessica Haidet and Tara McKeown smiled for me.
My next three pictures were of Women of Troy Rowers. Lauren Blonien, Molly Eberth and Taylor Richardson were first.
Rowers Ludovica Braglia and Annika Christensen were next.
Finally twins Olivia and Lillian Lau.
Women of Troy Golfers Gabi Ruffels and Malia Nam smiled for Trojan Candy next.
My last picture was of Rowers Lena Schroder, Katarzyna Pilch and Astrid Steensberg.
Trojan Candy took pictures of about half of the USC athletes who were signing autographs. I stopped because the line was so crowded, and I thought that I was causing a blockage in the line.
Thank you, and FIGHT ON, Track and Field, Women of Troy Soccer, Women of Troy Rowers and Women of Troy Golfers!
Next, Trojan Candy walked downstairs to the Galen Center arena level. The Women of Troy Basketball Team was on the floor warming up.
I saw friend and Senior
Aliyah Mazyck (10/11/2015) talking with her former coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. They both smiled for this picture.
Then Aliyah posed with her brother Collin, mom Alane and grandmother Sheryl.
Here are our women warming up before the game.
More Warmups.
The team captains met at center court with the referees.
Our Women of Troy stood together on the court for the Star Spangled Banner.
Now it was time for the Senior Salute to begin. Trojan Candy took pictures on the court and my husband Jim sat in the upper level stands and took videos.
Coaches Mark Trakh, Jason Glover, Blanche Alverson and Aarika Hughes held the Senior jerseys.
Marguerite and Coach Trakh hugged each other.
Marguerite posed with her family and friends. They were her Uncle Rodger, cousin Paola, father Pargait, Coach Trakh, Marguerite and her Fairfax High School coach Judy Edwards.
The next Senior was Cheyanne Wallace.
Cheyanne and Coach Trakh hugged each other.
Cheyanne posed with her family. They were her mom Ferrah Rassouli, dad Joe Wallace, Cheyanne, Coach Trakh and brother JoJo.
The third Senior,
Mariya Moore (11/5/2017), was congratulated by her teammates first.
Then, she was followed by her mother Cenne Carroll-Moore and sister
Minyon (11/5/2017), who is a Junior on the team.
Mariya and Coach Trakh hugged each other.
Mariya posed with Coach Trakh, her sister Minyon, and her parents Cenne and Errol Moore (in front) and an entourage of extended family and friends.
The last Senior introduced was Aliyah Mazyck.
As her little brother Jacob watched, Senior Associate Athletic Director Donna Heinel hugged and gave Aliyah a bouquet of flowers.
Aliyah posed with Coach Trakh and her family. There were ?, her dad Yandrick, Coach Trakh, her mother Alane, Aliyah, her grandmother Sheryl, and her siblings Sidney, Jacob and Collin.
Trojan Candy took this picture of the four Seniors and their families and friends.
Jim took this video of the entire Senior Salute that was shown on the Galen Center Big Screen.
Now, it was time for the USC vs. Utah game to start. Our starters were introduced. Kayla Overbeck, Minyon Moore, Cheyanne Wallace, Mariya Moore and Aliyah Mazyck.
Trojan Candy took this video of the opening tipoff and our first point---a free throw by Cheyanne Wallace.
This game was so exciting at the end of the fourth quarter. Our Women of Troy were 7 points down to Utah in the last minute. We were still down by 6 points with 25 seconds left. Then Senior Mariya Moore scored two three point shots in a 9 seconds span. With 4.5 seconds left in regulation, USC freshman Desiree Caldwell hit two free throws to tie the score at 68-68. Then in overtime, redshirt freshman Shalexxus Aaron made a three point shot and the team was a perfect 12 for 12 in free throws. We beat Utah 83-77 in O.T.!
Enjoy this video that shows the end of regulation when Desiree Caldwell tied the score at 68-68 with two free throws.
In overtime Mariya Moore made six out of six free throws. Here are two of them.
