Thursday, April 29, 2021---USC TGLA General Meeting
After a short Social segment, USC TGLA President Terri Boyle called the Zoom meeting to order. Here is my snip of the members who were in attendance at 10:15 am.
The business meeting segment was completed quickly. All former TGLA Presidents were honored. Then, there was the Installation of Elected and Appointed 2021-2022 Officers. Chairwoman of the TGLA Nominating Committee Sandy Johnston, Nikki Dana and Cheryl Schwartz wore red hats while they participated in the installation. Trojan Candy has already posted a picture of the TGLA "Elected Positions" for 2021-2022 in my February 4, 2021, Floral Demonstration Meeting. Then, Linda Waxman introduced our speaker David Eads.
Mr. Eads is the CEO of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses. His presentation was fantastically thorough! Trojan Candy took many snips of his presentation. Sorry that some of the slides were clipped. ENJOY his presentation!

The Rose Bowl Bash in downtown Los Angeles is family-friendly.
The Tournament of Roses sponsors the City of Pasadena.
For Band Cares, each band adopts and visits a nonprofit children's home or hospital for a concert.
Then Mr. Eads showed some past Rose Bowl floats.

Then David Eads showed how floats are made.
Volunteers hand decorate the floats with real flowers.
Steps to make a float
Add some special effects.
Then came the COVID-19 pandemic. We adjusted.
Then we celebrated, contributed and volunteered.
We have a growing list of 2022 Float Participants.

By the way, the answer to the USC Band trivia question is "2017." Who can forget our stunning victory over Penn State in the closing seconds?!?
Let's expect our team to play in the 2022 Rose Bowl game! FIGHT ON, USC Football!

Thursday, February 4, 2021---USC TGLA "Floral Demonstration" Meeting
Since our USC TGLA meeting was scheduled so close to Valentine Day, "Floral Demonstration", the topic of our meeting, was very appropriate. After the 9:45 am Social, the meeting started around 10:15 am. Trojan Candy took two snips of all the members in attendance.

Later I took a third snip of late members.
The main business of our meeting was the election of the 2021-2022 USC TGLA Executive Board of Officers. Nominations Chair Sandy Johnston announced the candidates.
Then, a vote of approval was taken with the showing of our hands.
More votes for approval.
Our new Board President is Christine Marie Ofiesh.
Co-President Elect is Terri Boyle.
Co-President Elect is Sandra Stewart Johnston.
Co-Vice President Membership is Patti Madden.
Ann Proctor is also Co-Vice President Membership.
Co-Vice President Scholarship is Lois Booth.
Andrea Maxie is also Co-Vice President Scholarship.
Vice President Ways & Means is Jean Getchell.
Recording Secretary is Cheryl Schwartz.
Co-Corresponding Secretary is Oksana Giebeler.
Sharon Schmidt is also Co-Corresponding Secretary.
Treasurer is Judy Lieb.
After the election was finished, there were a few Executive Board reports. VP Scholarship Andrea Maxie noted that Scholarship applications were due February 1st. Then VP Membership Sandy Johnston introduced three guests.

and Jerry Ensom (no picture).
Now, it was time for Christine Ofiesh to introduce our Guest Presenter Marina Santos, the Manager of Jacob Maarse Floral Design.
Marina welcomed everyone and then introduced her assistant Nicho.
Nicho started making a tropical design.
Marina told us that he will cut all of the flowers at an angle. Some of the flowers that Nicho cut were Thailand ginger, cymbidum orchid, and haliconia that is also known as Lobster-Claws.
Here is Nicho's finished lovely tropical design.
Lucky USC TGLA member Marilyn Kezirian won the tropical design flower arrangement.
Marina introduced another assistant Heidi.
She used the floral foam Oasis to make a second arrangement. Heidi added a hazel branch.
She added quince branches and Dutch tulips.
Heidi added Calla lilies and coffee bean.
Finally Heidi added a cymbidum orchid to finish her Oasis.
Lucky USC TGLA member Alnita Dunn won the beautiful Oasis.
Marina finished the presentation talking about table settings.
Then Marina introduced her photographer Alejandra.

Our proposed slate of Board members will be sent out to the entire membership for voting on at a general meeting. Until then, keep FIGHTING ON!
