Thursday, May 1, 2014---TGLA Officers Installation Meeting
More pictures of this last general meeting of the year can be found in this Google Plus album.
The third general TGLA meeting of the year was the changing of the Old Board for 2013-2014 to the New Board for 2014-2015. Many of the board members are the same hard-working, dedicated ladies that have served for many years.
The first picture is of incoming President Mary Indenbaum and outgoing President Christine Ofiesh.
The next picture is of all the former Presidents of the TGLA. What dedicated TGLA Members and Trojans!
Their tradition of volunteerism will be carried on by these five new TGLA members: Kathy Duffy, Sandy Johnston, Judy Lieb, Julie Pircher, and Roselyn Martov.
Then, the entire TGLA Board posed for a picture.
Next on the agenda was our guest speaker, Vice Dean of the Davis School of Gerontology Kelvin J.A. Davies, Ph.D., D.Sc.
His topic was entitled "A (Free) Radical View of Aging at USC."
His main contention is that oxygen is our enemy. Oxygen causes us to age! What a "radical" view indeed!
He also detailed how "free radicals" cause disease. Dr. Davies was so educational and so personable. He stayed for lunch and answered questions.
D'Arcy McLeod (First Vice President Programs), Dr. Davies, and President Christine Ofiesh. FIGHT ON, Dr. Davies!
Kathy Duffy with her sponsor D'Arcy McLeod.
FIGHT ON, NEW TGLA members!
Leslie Lilly was the lucky winner of the Nutcracker door prize. Congrats, Leslie!
Have a great summer and FIGHT ON, TGLA members!
Tuesday, April 29, 2014---TGLA Members at the Town and Gown "Grace in Motion"
Trojan Candy arrived early at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel to take as many pictures as I could of fellow TGLA members who were attending the 2014 Town and Gown Annual Scholarship Benefit.
The place to start was the "Silent Auction" area.
The first friends I saw were Eileen Ishizue, sister Patti Poon and Grace Shiba.
Next, Eileen and Patti joined next year's Town and Gown President Jane Bensussen and yours truly.
Kate Farlow and her daughter-in-law Nicole posed for this picture.
Trojan Candy saw new TGLA member Kathy Duffy with Ann Palmer.
My sister Patti sure got around a lot. She posed with Carol Greenhalgh.
Then I saw her. Women of Troy Head Basketball Coach and 2014 Gown Honoree Cynthia Cooper-Dyke was standing alone in the auction area. Coach graciously posed with my brother-in-law Dudley Poon, Patti, Eileen and me.
More TGLA members were checking out the auction items. Marilyn O'Driscoll and Gloria Phillips.
Jane, Town and Gown past-presidents Linda Givvin and Carol Fox, and Marilyn O'Driscoll.
Sheila Derrig and Ruth Milch.
New TGLA member Sandy Johnston, Sandra Gilbert and Mo Bassity.
Also in the auction area were Heritage Hall and women basketball friends. It was so nice to see Jessica Dugaw, Scott Jacobson and Jennifer Noriega again.
Friend and Women of Troy Basketball Administrative Assistant Jessika Carrington posed with her friends Becky and Beth.
Everyone walked downstairs to the luncheon ballroom. Trojan Candy saw two familiar faces. TGLA President Christine Ofiesh and D'Arcy McLeod smiled for this picture.
Sitting at my table were friend Jean Getchell and her cousin Marjorie.
Trojan Candy met three new Town and Gown friends who were also sitting at my table. They were Megan Cooper, Beverly Mitchell and Cheryl Ware.
The last picture Trojan Candy took before lunch was served was 2001 "Gown" honoree, Dr. Arthur C. Bartner. He is everywhere...just like Trojan Candy!
I must apologize to any TGLA members, who attended the Town and Gown Scholarship Benefit, if I didn't take your picture. It was impossible to know what table you sat at. Next time!
The two guest speakers were "Town" honoree Gloria Kaufman and "Gown" honoree Cynthia Cooper-Dyke.
What an enjoyable day!
FIGHT ON, Trojan Guild of Los Angeles!
