There was a tennis match being played between our men and Oregon. Trojan Candy was keeping track of the scores, but I was mainly visiting with "old" friends.
Senior Nick Crystal was the first Trojan to win in two sets 6-4 and 6-1. That was great for Trojan Candy. He came to sit in the stands, and that gave me a second chance to interview him. Which I did! I interviewed Nick two weeks ago, but I misplaced my notebook. Nick graciously answered my questions again. However, this time he was being "teased" by several teammates who were sitting behind us in the stands. Nick majored in Political Science but is undecided what profession he will pursue after graduation this May. Nick always knew he was going to attend USC. After all, he is a fourth generation Trojan! His great grandfather, his grandfather and his mother attended USC. Nick's mother played tennis and also competed in swimming at USC. Another USC Family! More personally, Nick likes to participate in other sports in addition to tennis. He has played soccer, lacrosse, and ping pong. What an all-around athlete! His favorite movie is "Gladiator," but he has no favorite television shows. Nick said that he doesn't watch television. When I asked my next question is when Nick was really teased by his teammates! I asked Nick what his favorite food is. When he said, "Buffalo wings," the two of us heard these questions by his laughing teammates....Boneless? What dressing? What sauce? Nick ignored the teasing and answered: With bones, Ranch and Buffalo sauce. What a GOOD SPORT! Thanks, CONGRATULATIONS and FIGHT ON, Nick!
Now, for the "old" friends. Trojan Candy saw tennis alumnus Ray Sarmiento (3/11/2011) walk down to visit with Nick. I took this picture of the two friends. FIGHT ON, Ray!
Then, I saw tennis alumnus Steve Johnson (4/26/2012)! He was sitting with his fiance and volleyball alumna Kendall Bateman. The two of them posed for this picture. I was able to speak with Kendall for a while. She told me that Steve and she met at an honor society event on campus just three weeks before they both graduated at USC. Kendall said that she will only have Steve here for two weekends before he heads back to the professional tour. She will continue to be a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Women of Troy Volleyball Team for next year. Steve and Kendall will be married in April. What a lovely couple they make! Congratulations and FIGHT ON, Kendall and Steve!
Still sopping wet, Thibault joined his teammates to sing "Fight On" in this video.
What a day....Many reunions and a victory too!
Trojan Candy arrived at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center an hour before the women's water polo match with San Jose State started.
