Trojan Candy's Galen Center friend, Keith Williams Jr. performed our Star Spangled Banner at Dodger Stadium tonight before the Dodger-Cubs NLCS play-off game. He was phenomenal!
Keith, who works at the Galen Center, sang our "Star Spangled Banner" before a Women of Troy basketball game on Sunday, February 28, 2016. Check out the blog article and video.
Trojan Candy arrived just in time at the Heritage Hall west patio to get my prime spot to take pictures and videos of the USC-Colorado football game rally.
Both were outstanding players at USC. Coach Colbert spoke to the team today, and Coach Udeze spoke to them on 9/4/2015.
As my husband Jim and I were walking towards the Utengsu Aquatics Center to watch the Men's Water Polo Team vs. Pepperdine, Trojan Candy saw two more friends.
What a stirring pep rally. Beat the Colorado Buffalos!
Trojan Candy was volunteering at the Town and Gown registration desk. Then I saw him walking into the Town and Gown patio. I immediately grabbed my camera and went to take a picture of USC Football Great, Sam Cunningham.
I asked Sam to pose for several pictures and he obliged. Friend Rex Johnston, who played football and baseball at USC in the late fifties joined Sam for this picture.
Then, Trojan Candy was able to take a picture of Sam by himself, but I had no time to interview him. Sam told me, "I see you everywhere." I guess the same is true of him.
Trojan Candy has seen Sam Cunningham several times before today. The first time, of course, was when he was a running back on the football field. Then, on February 12, 2007, I attended a USC Vision and Voices panel discussion called "Turning of the Tide: Diversity and College Activities." Pete Carroll was the moderator and Sam Cunningham was on the panel. Seven years later Trojan Candy took a picture of Sam at the Grand Re-opening of Heritage Hall on February 1, 2014. Recently, I took a picture of Sam on the AT&T stadium field on September 3, 2016.
FIGHT ON, Sam!
As Trojan Candy was walking into the Galen Center Founder's Room for the start of Monday Morning Quarterback, I saw a familiar face. At first I thought he was Cameron Smith. But, he told me that he was a friend that used to stop by the Heritage Hall Desk when I volunteered. Cyrus Hobbi (2/9/2012) looked very different...then I realized that he had lost a lot of weight. Trojan Candy first met Cyrus when he was a Freshman Offensive Lineman in 2012. I decided to interview him again to catch up with any changes in his life.
Cyrus said that his favorite movie is "Gladiator." As for his favorite food, Cyrus said that it was the candy I used to hand out at Heritage Hall. How sweet, I thought to myself. Trojan Candy does miss volunteering weekly at the Heritage Hall desk. Although he wasn't granted a sixth year of football eligibility because of injury, Cyrus said that he is still working out. He looks great! Good friend Scott Jacobson took the picture of Cyrus for me with my cellphone. Thanks, Scott!
Best of all, Cyrus is working in Recruiting for the football team, and his office is in the Galen Center.
FIGHT ON, Cyrus!
Trojan Candy and my husband Jim arrived at The Associates tailgate at 2:00 pm. We had just left our men's water polo victory over Pacific 15-7. FIGHT ON, USC Men's Water Polo!
At the entrance gate to the tailgate I saw a familiar face. TGLA Scholarship recipient Rebecca Galindo (10/2/2014) smiled and said hello. Rebecca was on the USC Spirit Leaders team for two years. She graduated last year.
As I was looking for the Spirit of Troy to appear, a lady walked up to me and asked me if I was at the USC Volunteer Recognition Dinner last Thursday night (September 29). When I answered yes, she told me that her husband David Cash was sponsored by the Rossier School of Education for the Widney Alumni House Award. Right then, I decided to meet a fellow educator. We walked over to him, and his wife Heather introduced me to David and their daughter Ella. Congratulations, David!
Unfortunately, the Spirit of Troy was late, so Trojan Candy could not take a video of them. As we left to go to the Coliseum, I saw some close friends whom we see at many home and away football games. Barbara and Tom Halvorsen, Walt Greene and Diana Hernandez.
Our Trojans beat ASU 41-20! FIGHT ON, USC Football Team!
