Before the Women of Troy Volleyball Team match versus Washington State began, there were special treats for young and old in the lobby. Children were given jack o'lanterns when they entered so that they could go trick or treating with the athletes after the match ended. Trojan Candy got two treats in the lobby. There was complimentary cotton candy for everyone. Then, a special "Trojan Candy" bag was spray painted for me. Thank you!
In the arena, I took this picture of four Pep Squad members in costume. They were Jade Simmons, Rebecca Galindo, Mario Montes, and Anna Ziai. Don't they look good in their costumes?
Disc jockey D.J. Mal-Ski posed by his keyboard.
Junior star Samantha Bricio appeared in this Halloween scene on the big screen.
Best yet, our Women of Troy beat Washington State 3-1!
What a nice Halloween treat!
FIGHT ON, USC Women of Troy Volleyball!
Trojan Candy will write next about the Men's and Women's Basketball "Trojan Tip-Off."
FIGHT ON, until then.
My husband Jim and I arrived at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center early for the USC Men's Water Polo match versus Pacific. Trojan Candy sat on the front row, right in the middle in order to take the best pictures. It was there I met Rex Butler's mother Karen. She came over to meet Jim and me. Rex Butler (5/3/2014) is using the Men's Water Polo locker that we donated.
While we were ahead 1-0, Rex Butler (wearing #4) scored the hundredth goal of his career to make it 2-0. FIGHT ON, Rex!
This match versus UOP was definitely different from the NCAA National Championship that Trojan Candy saw in Stanford last December 2013. Our men beat UOP in double overtime 12-11 to win our sixth NCAA Water Polo title in a row! Check out my coverage of that history making victory (12/8/2013).
Coach Vavic huddled to plan some strategy for a USC power play.
Then, Senior Kostas Genidounias scored to make the match 3-0 for USC in the second quarter.
Our team played very good defense against a Pacific power play.
Coach Vavic substituted in many players.
The final score was USC 11 - UOP 6.
During the game a very special USC alumnus was introduced. Fred Uytengsu (2/21/2014), who donated the money to build the stadium, flew in from the Philippines to attend the match. Trojan Candy took this picture of him and USC Head Swimming Coach Dave Salo after the match ended. FIGHT ON, Fred! FIGHT ON, Coach Salo!
FIGHT ON, USC Men's Water Polo!
The women's volleyball match was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Actually, the earlier time was good...more children could come to see the Women of Troy Volleyball Team compete against Oregon State.
Trojan Candy took THIS VIDEO of our team entering the arena.
Next, the introductions of the USC starting lineup were shown on the big screen in THIS VIDEO.
Then the Women of Troy shook hands with the Oregon State team in THIS VIDEO.
Let the match begin.
Trojan Candy noticed the new banner that was hung near the volleyball banners. USC alumna Bibiana Candelas was the honoree. FIGHT ON, Bibiana!
We lost the first set 19-25, but we fought back and won the next three sets, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-16. In those four sets, sophomore Ebony Nwanebu had twenty kills and a 0.513 hitting rate. Every time Ebony killed the ball, it was shown on the "Kill" tracker. Then, "KWANE-BOOM" was flashed on the over-head big screen in her honor. FIGHT ON, Ebony!
